There are fewer than 100 long-billed curlews who winter in Georgia, and scientists do not know very much about them.
In 2015, the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center and their partners tagged one long-billed curlew. It was the first time a bird from the group along the Atlantic coast was tracked.
Why? Learning more about the population of long-billed curlews that winter along the Atlantic coast will help scientists determine where they should focus conservation efforts.
