Happy #NationalBirdDay! We’re @スミソニアン国立動物園 and we’re taking over this account for the day to share our work in migratory bird science.
In one project, scientists from the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources are studying brown pelican migration.
They tagged six brown pelicans this year on the Chesapeake Bay to learn more about how the pelicans use habitats there and where they spend the winter. Scientists fitted nesting pelicans with GPS tags that they wear like a backpack. The tags do not harm the birds and will not stay on permanently. #WeSaveSpecies #YearoftheBird #BirdYourWorld
