Democratic and popular ways of producing and disseminating photographic images have always been a part of Stephen Shore’s creative process. Following experimentations using amateur cameras like the Mick-a-Matic and the Rollei 35 in the early 1970s, Shore turned his attention to print-on-demand bookmaking in 2003, when the technique was still new. He produced 83 small books over the course of seven years. All were printed in limited editions of twenty copies, and with rare exceptions served as time capsules, made in a single day or less.
