Here’s a super shot of the Great Court featuring the ‘Lion of Knidos’, taken by @lvictoriaj. This ancient Greek statue weighs a colossal six tonnes! It was part of a funerary monument that once stood on a headline at the top of a cliff in the ancient city of Knidos, now in modern-day Turkey. It was made from one piece of marble over 2,000 years ago and may once have had eyes inlaid with glass. Aside from decoration, these inlays may have had a practical function – with the reflection in the glass helping sailors navigate the rugged coastline.
