Seemingly overnight, the names Harvey and Irma has taken on new found notoriety. The devastation caused by these disasters remind us that there are people in far worse pain no matter how bad our day was. The concentration of suffering also calls up bigger issues of humanitarian aid, climate change and the dangers we face together as the human race. There is enough turmoil in the world without us adding to it upon each other, why does it take a grade 5 hurricane to remind us of that?

Conversely, artists and stars often achieve notoriety for representing traits and values that humans cherish. A big part of what I strive for is to realistically portray aspects of human nature that we all share. No one is perfect, we all make mistakes, that is being human and it is beautiful. In the way that Harvey and Irma reminds us we need to band together, I hope one day I can use my art to remind everyone that no matter what our creed or circumstance, we are all the same people and we should all be celebrated all the time.
