How would you feel if you found out you were related by blood to your worst enemy? Can you imagine a bigot's constipated look when he finds out that his family is as colorful as a decked out Christmas tree?Genetic tests prove that humans have exchanged our DNA across boundaries of nation and race for millennia and when I look at my sister (Chinese+German+???) I realize what an awesome thing it is. Not only does "mixing it up" make beautiful people, but it makes our species more resilient as a whole. We are all magnificent mutts and race is a word that's becomes more vague the more you think about it, good riddance. However, there is another prejudice that's even more insidious, culturalism. When I was a kid, getting picked on by those who I thought we shared the same origins hurt me the most. Now I understand they did it because though we looked the same, we lived in different cultures. Culturalism is the discrimination of others simply because of the differences in habits, beliefs, traditions, and like its ugly cousin racism, it should also be stomped out. Cultural sharing, much like genetic sharing, makes us stronger and more vibrant. Look at all the fusion restaurants, hybrid music and language we are so Gung Ho to use and enjoy. Other cultures enrich our imagination creating awesome shows like AfroSamurai, Into the Badlands (Inspired by Journey to the West, a Chinese legend), and my addiction Game of Thrones is also a tapestry of myth and histories from all over the world (where are all the Asians in Westeros btw?) What's next? Dare I say East World???
