From the 1979 #JoyDivision album #UnknownPleasures, She’s Lost Control was first played live by the band in 1978. It was also released as a single as the B side to Atmosphere (for our listeners in the US it was the other way around with Atmosphere as the B side ). Band frontman, #IanCurtis had worked as a disablement resettlement officer at a rehabilitation centre in Macclesfield in 1978 and 1979. One of the cases, a woman suffering from epilepsy was in rehab and hoping to find her way back into employment. Curtis had seen her suffering the fits and when she failed to return to the centre he assumed that she had found employment .The sad truth only became apparent later, that she had suffered and died from an epileptic seizure. Curtis himself was diagnosed with epilepsy in 1978 . It was his own suffering from the impairment and the witnessing of the case at the rehabilitation centre that inspired the lyrics for the song. The drum beat is unmistakeable and the words are chilling but warm at the same time. An everyday subject that remains taboo dealt with sensitively. It can be just listened to and it can be danced to. Confusion in her eyes that says it all. She's lost control. And she's clinging to the nearest passer by, #Sheslostcontrol. And she gave away the secrets of her past, And said I've lost control again, And a voice that told her when and where to act, She said I've lost control again. And she turned around and took me by the hand and said, I've lost control again. And how I'll never know just why or understand, She said I've lost control again. And she screamed out kicking on her side and said, I've lost control again. And seized up on the floor, I thought she'd die. She said I've lost control. She's lost control again. Well I had to 'phone her friend to state my case, And say she's lost control again. And she showed up all the errors and mistakes, And said I've lost control again. But she expressed herself in many different ways, Until she lost control again. And walked upon the edge of no escape, And laughed I've lost control. Confusion in her eyes that says it all.
She's lost control.
And she's clinging to the nearest passer by,
#Sheslostcontrol.
And she gave away the secrets of her past,
And said I've lost control again,
And a voice that told her when and where to act,
She said I've lost control again.
And she turned around and took me by the hand and said,
I've lost control again.
And how I'll never know just why or understand,
She said I've lost control again.
And she screamed out kicking on her side and said,
