ALLGENDER One of the really obvious aspects of Underglaround is the adherence to the concept of all inclusiveness. Our products are made with no one particular group in mind- the only customer that we have is the Underground customer. We are often asked why we don’t have a Mens and Womens section on our online store or in our Soho store. The truth it is not something we have really done. We had to ask our founder about that to put some more light on it. This is the explanation that we got “ Its not something that I ever thought about , right back at the beginning it just didn’t occur to me that we should put a distinction in between genders. When Underground was starting out in 1981 there were some changes on the way through all of the sub cultures and for me it was more about creating or finding product for those groups rather than working out if that would be for boys or girls. “. So that’s where we started and where we are now. We have been Allgender, whether that was a deliberate decision or just a sub-concious decision it doesn’t really matter. What matters to us is that it was a genuine decision without commercial gain as the sole driver. It was a real honour for us to take a call from Selfridges when they ran the Agender promotion in 2015 in a space curated by renowned designer Faye Toogood. They asked us to present Underground as the anchor footwear brand for the promotion through a pop-up store. It was of course an honour for the brand and recognition of our ongoing Allgender creditentials. The image features the Jungle collection and the Original Wulfrun. Allgender
