#DYK divers see less than half the fish species on coral reefs? The “hidden half” are called “cryptobenthics,” tiny fish usually less than 2 inches long.
They can sport some crazy hairstyles, like the tassels on this roughhead blenny. Called “cirri,” they’re thought to be sensory organs, but their exact purpose remains a mystery.
