In addition to doing research in Asia, our scientists also do research with the elephants that live at @スミソニアン国立動物園 (left to right): Swarna, Kamala, Shanthi, Bozie, Maharani and Ambika.
Scientists at Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute are working to better understand Asian elephant biology, behavior, reproduction, genetics and the elephant endotheliotropic virus (a deadly virus that affects wild elephants and elephants in human care). For #WorldElephantDay on August 12 at the Zoo, Ambika will get a special treat at 2:45 p.m. to celebrate her 70th birthday! #WeSaveSpecies
