part2
I had an aha! moment where I realized that those who have zakka stores and antique shops today may be of the same breed as those who ran bars some thirty years ago.

Ryuj Mitani, a woodworker who established "lifestyle crafts" as a genre, and Masanobu Ando, a ceramicist and the owner of Galerie Momogusa, are both strongly influenced by jazz; it was apparently a formative part of their aesthetics and how to interpret a new release by Miles Davis back then had been crucial to them. I understood that, twenty or thirty years removed, in another generation, is Teruki Mishina, the owner of a zakka store and the author of Subete no zakka.

That his essays' writing style resembles Haruki Murakami's seems to indicate that the way of today’s stylish and refined people of culture is starting to resemble that of Murakami’s time; that the mood of the time is perhaps coming full circle.

As you can see, my imagination ran wild.

In any case, reading this book in my studio located near a recycling service during long summer rain gave me a sense that I was back to being a twenty-year-old university student—as though I was allowed to go back to the time of Haruki Murakami’s early works.
