This beautiful Art Nouveau porcelain plaque was made by tilemakers Minton & Co. in 1896. It was designed by Léon-Victor Solon, the director and chief designer at the company. It shows a female figure sitting on a throne, holding a heart. The vivid colours, gilding and etching create a range of effects ranging from subtle to pronounced. Although Art Nouveau was an international movement, it was short-lived, and fell out of fashion by the First World War. The style inspired artworks in the 1960s that used the strong, sinuous lines and floral designs in famous posters for bands like Pink Floyd. #ArtNouveau #MintonTiles #porcelain #Minton #colour #etching #gilding #gold
