?? Voici le détail d’un panneau marqueté d’une armoire attribuée à André-Charles Boulle et datant de la fin du XVIIe siècle. Il représente un perroquet, posé sur une branche. Cette marqueterie est d'une extrême finesse et d'une très grande qualité. Les couleurs des essences de bois, aujourd'hui un peu passées, jouent sur le fond d'écaille donnant un effet chamarré à l'ensemble. Par sa maîtrise des matériaux et par sa virtuosité dans la découpe des éléments, Boulle atteint ici le summum de son art. André-Charles Boulle bénéficia d'un atelier au Louvre à partir de 1672. Il y porta à son apogée la technique qui porte son nom, mais dont il n'est pas l'inventeur. Dès le XVIIe siècle, Boulle connut un très grand succès et livra un grand nombre de meubles pour le Garde-Meuble de la Couronne.

The marquetry is extremely delicate and of very high quality. The colors of the woods, somewhat faded today, play on the tortoiseshell ground, giving the whole a richly colored effect. Here, Boulle's command of his materials and his unrivaled skill in cutting out the various parts show him at the height of his powers as a cabinetmaker. From 1672, André Charles Boulle enjoyed the privilege of having a workshop at the Louvre, where he brought the technique named after him, but which he did not invent, to its most accomplished heights. In the seventeenth century, Boulle was highly successful, delivering many pieces to the Royal Furniture Repository.
