As land-dwellers, it’s easy for us to forget that every living creature on the planet, including us, can trace their ancestry back to the sea. The oceans generate most of the oxygen we breathe, help feed us, and regulate our climate. They also inspire us with a seemingly limitless array of biodiversity and natural wonders. The Great White, featured here in the iconic 81st St. NYC subway mosaic mural located beneath the museum, has long been a subject of fascination for humans. Although commonly imagined as a fearsome and threatening menace, Great White attacks on humans are surprisingly low.
