This weekend, the waxing gibbous moon is near the direction of Jupiter, with moon and planet visible as twilight fades. Tonight the pair is separated by just a degree and a half of arc. Although the pair looks close, the moon is then 247,000 miles from Earth, while Jupiter is 1,830 times further, a distance of about 452 million miles. That’s equivalent to seeing the New Jersey side of the Hudson from Riverside Park compared to the distance from New York to Denver.
