The glaciers and water table of the Tibetan Plateau provides water for over 2 billion of earth's population, feeding the Ganges, Mekong, and Yangtze rivers. Research on climate change indicates that the plateau, even with an average elevation of 16,000ft above sea level, is heating asst nearly twice the rate of the global average. This warming causes glacial deflation as well as recession, which is already evident in the water available to the populations down steam.
