Hi #ospreypacks fans! Ray Zahab (@rayzahab) here back for Day 2 of my takeover!
My longtime friend and Arctic expert, Billy Arnaquq, knows Baffin Island better than anyone. He lives on the small island of Qikiqtarjuaq, and has taught me so much over the years about this region of the Arctic!
Our ski portion started in North Pangnirtung Fjord, where we would experience -60F winds in the 100mph range and varying snow conditions for the next 5 days. During the early hours of day 4 of our Baffin stage of the Arctic Extreme expedition, it was very cold with huge winds as we left Summit Lake, about halfway across Baffin. This was my 6th traverse, and 3rd in winter, but I have learned not to try and predict anything in the Arctic. This was no exception.
