This year, New Museum, @drawingcenter, and @publicartfund are celebrating their 40th anniversaries. In 1977, all three organizations were founded by women, and today on #InternationalWomensDay, we’re highlighting these visionaries. Marcia Tucker founded the New Museum to support the work of living artists and to champion art as a vital social force. During her tenure, Tucker embraced diverse voices and visions and shaped the institution’s ongoing advocacy for women artists as a hallmark the New Museum’s mission. “The museum was started at the extreme edge of idealism and of optimism,” Tucker said, and her vision of “new art, new ideas” continues to define the museum today. ?: Marcia Tucker, 1978, via the New Museum Archive
