#RaymondPettibon’s drawings of Superman, Batman and his sidekick, Robin, parody traditional representations of the popular comic book characters by casting them as emotional figures caught in complicated—and often melodramatic—romantic and sexual entanglements. This reimagining of the superheroes’ identities contrasted with popular depictions of the characters, which were often read as representations of American exceptionalism and moral authority.
