This past weekend, hundreds of youth climbers competed in their respective USAC Divisionals with hopes of making the cut for the 2017 Youth Nationals. I found it fitting that today @rockandicemag would publish the digital-version of the story that appeared in print a few months ago: my own account as a youth competitor and how I felt the need to cheat - yet, in the end, I was only cheating myself.

It wasn't an easy subject to write about but I felt it was an important one. I hope my past experience resonates with anyone who feels a similar pressure within themselves. Realizing our motivations for climbing can be a tough journey, and I certainly learned mine the hard way. •
Reposting from my first caption about the article... "Feeling the need to lie or cheat is a hard position to be in (I understand!) and there's no reason for it. It's easy to get caught up in validation from others. But climbing is selfishly-beautiful in that sense... In the end, you can only climb yourself." •
I welcome any questions or experiences that relate to it. I only ask that you read the full article before making any judgements. Link in bio ?
