This is Mike the cat ?He assisted with security at the Museum’s Main Gate from February 1909 to January 1929. His home was with the Keeper of the Egyptian cat mummies, but he soon befriended the gatekeepers who would feed him meat or fish. Mike reportedly enjoyed stalking pigeons on the colonnade, and chasing dogs that entered the Museum. Despite his relaxed appearance, Mike was apparently not a fan of being stroked by strangers, and was known to extend a clawed paw onto any hand that got too close!
