This beautifully intricate pendant shows the Adoration of the Magi in stunning detail – the scene is less than 4cm across! It’s decorated with rubies and peals, and the Virgin Mary holds baby Jesus below a star made from diamonds.
The figures are decorated with incredibly fine enamelwork – we can see the richly patterned material of the kings’ robes. This pendant was made in Germany around 1600 and it’s on display in the Museum’s #Waddesdon gallery (Room 2a). #BritishMuseum #jewellery #Waddesdon #ruby #magi #diamonds #pearls
