Habitat loss is the #1 reason for the decline. Also hunting of their food, and turning wilderness into agriculture or livestock production. The pet trade is also a factor. 2/3 of the cheetah population live outside protected areas as cheetahs need to roam. These areas need to be friendly to wildlife with prey species protected for these predators - or we face a world without these magnificent creatures. Scientists desire the cheetah to be re-classified as endangered, which will help them.
