A diver floats underwater beneath pack ice in Hokkaido, Japan. With water temperature of 29-degree Fahrenheit (almost -2 C), the ice canopy can be 25-feet thick and constantly moves with wind and tide.
Exploring in places like this are not without risk, but with proper training and experience can be done safely. The green and aqua hues are caused by algae that freezes into the ice and give the appearance of drifting in a clod-filled sky..
