Everyone's talking about Trump's deal with Carrier. Here's what you need to know. Carrier is an Indiana-based company that planned to move production to Mexico, sending roughly 1,400 jobs abroad. That's when #DonaldTrump and #MikePence stepped in. To stop those jobs from going to Mexico, team Trump negotiated a #deal that lets 1,000 Indiana workers keep their jobs. However, one of Carrier's Indiana plants will still close, losing 700 jobs. Trump's deal also included $7 million in financial "incentives" or tax breaks for Carrier, provided by the state of Indiana. Trump boasted about the deal on Thursday, saying: "Companies are not going to leave the United States anymore without consequences." It remains to be seen, however, whether the Carrier deal can be replicated on a scale wide enough to reverse a decades long decline in factory jobs.
