An iceberg frozen within pack ice, on the floe edge in the High Arctic near Navy Board Inlet, Canada. The decline of sea ice in this region during recent years has been substantial.
As a result of anthropogenic climate change, it is predicted that within a year or two, the North Pole will be ice free in the summer, meaning that ships will be able to pass over the pole for the first time in recorded history.
