Photo by @christianziegler on assignment for National Geographic. A Tufted Capuchin (Cebus paella; Machín negra) inspects my camera trap, 25 meters above the forest floor. He looks very suspicious and he ran away moments after the camera flashes went off. Tufted Capuchins are often extremely cautious and concerned for their own safety. This is not the most photogenic monkey and this guy is old! Capuchins have been recorded to live up to 45-years of age in this area, this male might be close to this age. This picture is from an expedition to Cocha Cashu biological station in Manu National Park, Peru. Our aim was to document the amazing diversity of animals that visit a fruiting fig tree deep in the Peruvian Amazon.
