Meet our #WomenInScience parasite hunters. Katrina Lohan of @SmithsonianEnvironment (right) and Kristina Hill-Spanik have journeyed from Chesapeake Bay to Panama, searching for microscopic parasites infecting oysters.
Humans can inadvertently spread parasites and disease around the globe through shipping and importing exotic animals for aquaria and aquaculture. By studying the diversity of parasites around the world, Lohan and Hill-Spanik are helping combat the rise of infectious disease in the world’s oceans.
