In honor of #NYCPride Week, we are featuring a few works from our collection by LGBTQ+ artists whose creative practices reference this identity and/or experience. This work by #KehindeWiley, who you may remember from last year’s exhibition A New Republic, is part of 'Black Light,' a series of 17 photographs. It is based on British painter #JoshuaReynolds's 1763 portrait of Susanna Gale, daughter of a British sugar planter in Jamaica. In @kehindewiley's rendering, a contemporary black man takes her place, unsettling categories of race, sexuality, gender, and privilege.
