今日の和菓子：アヤメ
和菓子修行@京都 vol.2 亀屋良長さんで教えていただいて作った「菖蒲」。先日作った老松さんのものと作り方はほぼ同じ。「菖蒲（しょうぶ）」の音が、武を重んじる「尚武（しょうぶ）」と同じであることから、「端午の節句」の花として和菓子でもよく用いられます。

Today's Wagashi : Iris flower
May 5 is a Japanese National holiday ; “Boy’s Day”. Because the word for Japanese iris was pronounced same as the word for martial spirit (both were pronounced "shobu") and also the shape of leaves of Japanese iris remind people of swords, tango was determined as the sekku for boys and people prayed for the healthy growth of boys.
