Enjoy some weekend travel? This 1883 Travelers’ Official Guide published by the National Railway Publication Company in New York inspires us to hit the rails and do some exploring. The cover showed the new zoned times that would govern railway travel, and inside were new standardized time tables.
The year 1883 is when local times across North America (determined by the position of the sun) were consolidated into standardized time zones. This was convenient and safer because trains were less likely to collide if clocks were synchronized.
