Who has eight arms and is excited to be featured on the Smithsonian Instagram? This guy! He’s from the collections of @SILibraries and we’re taking over this week.
This Octoupus vulgaris was documented by Jean Baptiste Vérany in “Mollusques méditeranéens” in 1851. Now, his book has been fully digitized by @SILibraries and is one of thousands available through the Biodiversity Heritage Library (biodiversitylibrary.org), an effort based at the @スミソニアン博物館 to digitize natural history books and make them available to researchers around the world.
