Photo by @renaeffendiphoto In order to enforce new religious practices and fully abandon the old, ancient Egyptian pharaoh Akhenaten built a new capital in the desert now known as Tel-Amarna, about 36 miles south of Minya on the southern banks
of the Nile where he established the cult of Aten (sun disc). He named the city - Akhetaten. On the west bank, land was set aside to provide crops for the city's population. Most farming to this day occurs on the West Bank. This is the Nile agricultural road leading from Minya to Amarna.
