Finally tried Shojin-ryori 精進料理 at Shigetsu Zen Vegetarian restaurant inside Tenryuji Temple, Arashiyama (Kyoto). What is Shojin ryori? It is traditional Japanese Buddhist vegetarian cuisine and a must try if you visit Kyoto.
Expect delicate flavours yet each dish so powerful on the palate. A firm affirmation that there is no need for complicated or strong seasoning for delicious food.
And another reason why I love Japanese food.
Tip: make reservations online as they are usually too full to take in walk ins.
