@stevewinterphoto @natgeo This was shot for my upcoming @natgeo Leopard story in the Dec 2015 issue of National Geographic Magazine. This Buddha mediates over the buffer zone of Yala National Park. While I was waiting for permission to place camera traps in the park I met the Abbot of the local monastery as he controls the buffer zone and told me thru an interpreter that they commonly saw leopards sitting on the large granite hills within the buffer zone. I was looking for a spot to place a camera - it began to get dark and we looked out over the homes of the leopards, elephants, bears and all the animals of the park. on the way down to the jeep we passed this Buddha - with the stars behind. Remember just as an example of the importance of the homes of these leopards - the forests. 50% of our oxygen comes from forest - the other 50% from the oceans. 75% of fresh water comes from forests. So if we save their homes - we help save ourselves. Last night I saw Racing Extinction - a vital film for our time. There is hope - each of us can make a difference. Find out how @ #racingextinction.
