Unlike the 1890s tendency to cover up in heavy fabric and muted colors (see previous post!), 1950s swimsuits verged on theatrical costumes. And they were largely worn poolside, not IN the pool.
Women like the owner of this rose-adorned suit might have worn heels, jewelry, and makeup along with their swimsuits.
