As thousands of children gathered at @grandcentralnyc to board special trains bound for summer camps, “stay-at-home children were out-of-doors here yesterday,” the paper reported. On 137th Street near Willis Avenue in the Bronx, the staff photographer Robert Walker captured children getting an impromptu shower from a fire hydrant opened by the Police Athletic League.
