Memorial Day begins the high season for New Yorkers’ romance with the water. “We shed layers of clothing, and we shed layers of restriction,” said @sbrqns, who lives and surfs in Rockaway. For her, there is still no spectacle as varied and transfixing. Her project “A Further Shore” captures New York in all four seasons. This photo was taken during the final stage of the @8bridges Swim on the Hudson River last June. But @sbrqns said her images could be of New York’s waters 100 years ago. “I have a nostalgic overlay when it comes to the water,” she said. “It still has this quality of the past to it, an antidote to the constant sense of forward motion that occupies so much of our lives.”
