Refined sugars are processed and depleted of vitamins and minerals. They serve no purpose and weaken the body's immune system and cell function, causing diseases like type 2 diabetes, heart disease, obesity and cancer. #MakesSense Typical products containing large amounts of refined sugars are sodas, syrups, candy, cakes and cookies, most cereals. Basically all the stuff that 'tastes great'. That sucks!! #IloveHäagenDaszAndNutella But why does it taste great? Because aside from the calories it contains, sugar is a highly addictive substance that causes a neurotransmitter response that makes us feel good when we eat it and even makes us experience a mild "high". #ThatsWhyIalwaysEatIceCreamWhenImSad Once this feeling subsides, we end up craving it again. Over time we build up a tolerance to the sugar and end up needing more and more to produce that same high. Therefore, the calories add up and we end up gaining weight. Thing is, there is no need to consume refined sugars. All the sugar the body needs can be found in whole grains, vegetables and fruits. Now you know I cant quit all that great stuff at once. But I can quit some of it and reduce the rest, or just take baby steps. First baby step: No soda, candy, cakes and ice-cream for one week. I read somewhere that you lose 10lbs if you let go of sugar for a week. Too much too fast? Ok, here it is: NO SODAS FOR A WEEK!!! Let's try.
