This towel was used as a flag of truce by Confederate troops during Gen. Lee's surrender, which effectively ended the Civil War 150 years ago today. It was preserved by Gen. George A. Custer. ?? Museums and parks around the country will be ringing their bells at 3:15 p.m. EDT as part of #BellsAcrossTheLand2015 to commemorate this end of the war.
