Alexander Graham Bell and his associates from the Volta Laboratory deposited materials sealed in tin boxes at the Smithsonian in the early 1880s in case of a patent battle. The box contained a graphophone with wax recording, a copper electro type copy of an unknown original recording, lab notes, and newspapers. The boxes remained unopened at the Smithsonian, until 1937 when it was opened@in the presence of Bell's daughters and great-grandson. This is the lid of a box deposited in October 1881. #HearHistory
