Peter Bridgeford and Holger Kolberg attempt to bring a lappet faced vulture chick under control in the Namib-Naukluft National Park. The chick will be weighed, measured, banded and tagged as part of an ongoing research project into these stunning birds. Lappet faced vultures, like most of Africa's vultures are in decline. The population in the Namib-Naukluft however is relatively stable. Lappet faced vultures have a wingspan of up to 9ft - making them one of the largest of the vulture family. When captured they are actually very passive compared with other species. The chick pictured is just a few days from fledging.
