Since so many of you appreciated yesterday's photo by Gertrude Käsebier (1852-1934), here's another. This is her portrait of Two Bulls, one of the Dakota Sioux performers with Buffalo Bill's Wild West show. He wears just two feathers in comparison to the full headdresses of the older leaders and chiefs.

Käsebier's portraits of American Indians have sometimes been characterized as idealized, softened by the platinum process and printing, perhaps smoothing over difficult, violent, and unresolved issues between American Indians and the United States. #photography #NoFilter
