200 years ago today: The British fired Congreve rockets like these at Ft. McHenry outside of Baltimore, Maryland. They exploded into deadly fragments. Next time you sing our national anthem, think about these during the lines about "the rockets red glare" and the "bombs bursting in air." The battle wore on for 25 hours. "The moment of suspense is awful," wrote the editor of a Washington, DC, newspaper, awaiting news from Baltimore.
