#ConvergentEvolution
This is the Jamaican anole. While appearing similar to other island lizards in the region, the anole indeed a completely different species. DNA-based studies by #JonathanLoso of #WashingtonUniverity in St. Louis reveal deeper reality; that adaptations such as the Anole’s similarity to other lizard of the region evolved independently, on separate islands with no relation to the other lizards. The lesson: Although variations occur randomly, similar ecological circumstances sometimes yield uncannily similar adaptations.
