Know what your mail needs? Fireworks!
On National Anthem Day (March 3), the first day of issue ceremony for this new stamp takes place here. It includes fireworks and the flag over Fort McHenry in Baltimore, Maryland.
It was the British bombardment of Fort McHenry that attorney Francis Scott Key was watching 200 years ago on September 13, 1814. The next morning, as the "dawn's early light" revealed the American flag flying over the fort, Key exultantly began jotting down the lines of the song that became our national anthem.
