Today it's "Big Block of Cheese Day" at the White House, inspired by an 1837 open house held by President Andrew Jackson. Apologies for being cheesy but we wanted to share a few Jackson-related objects in our collection in case the day whet your appetite for history.
Images: Jackson carried this sword and scabbard while commanding the American forces (which included Tennessee militia, U.S. regulars, and Cherokee, Choctaw, and Southern Creek Indians) during the Creek War and in the War of 1812. This presidential campaign medal was made by Scovill Manufacturing of Waterbury, Connecticut. It features a bust of Jackson on one side. On the reverse, it says "The Nation's Pride." #verygouda #WestWing #bigblockofcheeseday
