Enduring Rifts - Santiago, Chile. Four decades after Augusto Pinochet's military overthrew Salvador Allende's democratically-elected government, the past remains a vital force in the country. Ana Gonzalez points to her husband and the only remaining image of her family that was taken before her husband, two sons and her pregnant daughter in law were disappeared during Pinochet's rule. Gonzalez related a powerful story about a traveling photographer who had taken the photograph of her family by chance many years ago. It's the only image that she has of her family when it was intact. She is pointing at her husband. #pulitzercenter @jonlowenstein #noorimages @noorimages #memory #photograph #photography #blackandwhite #nofilter @The New Yorker #neruda #past
