I obtained a large size of IKAWA MEMPA, a lacquered cypress lunch box. This was used by the mountain people in the northern part of Shizuoka for centuries. In honor of the mountain people, I made and packed maitake mushrooms, shiitake mushrooms, kikurage mushrooms, burdock root, arame (seaweed), ginger, and cooked rice with beans. Side dishes are simmered chicken breast, fried string konjak, steamed broccoli and baby corn with dried bonito flakes.
