Words by @bertiegregory | The Galápagos is a land of volcanoes and marine iguanas. These reptiles are the only lizards in the world that regularly swim in the sea. Each day they brave 10-foot (3m) waves to forage for seaweed underwater. The nutrient-rich currents that hit the Galápagos are relatively chilly, so the cold-blooded iguanas must warm up in the sun before jumping in. Bright red Sally Lightfoot crabs are on hand to help keep the lizards’ solar-panel-scales in tip-top condition. They pick off dead skin in what seems like a weird seaside pampering session.
